Hello friends, what a pleasant week again! Last week was a very busy as the orientation for the newly admitted degree students in Information Technology of Oulu UAS were concluded. It was really a week full of fun for these students. Before then, was the arrival of these students from their various countries of destinations and almost all of them were received by their student tutors and directed to their various apartments accordingly. Being their first time in Oulu, many of them were so curious to explore the city by visiting most of the happening places in the city. They knew quite well that the best ways to achieve this was to make sure they arrive before the date of the orientation put together for them by the school.
Interestingly, many of these new students made it to this orientation ceremony that was organized from 29th-31st of August, 2012. It was a memorable event as many of them have now seen the big picture of been admitted as one of the students of Oulu UAS. There couldn’t have been a better way to welcome these new students than to organize this kind of a friendly and colorful event.
The event began with a nice Coffee and Tea breakfast session. After that, was a welcome speech by the Head of the Department- Mr Jari-Pekka Rontu and also a welcome speech by the Director of the School of Engineering-Mr Jyrki Laitinen. Then it was to time for the students, Tutors and the Teachers to know each other and this was handled by the International Coordinator-Ms Katja Kurasto. After which, was the time for the students to be informed about their studies, Teaching Schedules and Curriculum of DPI and this was handled by the Head of degree program-Ms Lea Hannila.
The students also had the opportunity to have some practical information by their Tutor Teacher and also IT information by Mr Pekka Alaluukas. They also had the privilege of visiting the Oulu city, registering their stay in Finland at the Local Register office, opening of bank accounts, had lunch together, ask their student tutors some questions, register with the students union, partook in Team Building Competitions and they had lots of fun even to the extent of forming a Click-Like Human Monument which is best expressed in the picture below.
What is next after this? You may want to ask. I must say that it is academic work which comes after they have been equipped with all the necessary tools to get them started in their desired quest. I wish them success in all their endeavors!
